Whatever You Do, Do It for Him [TDPOW #81]

Whatever You Do, Do It for Him [TDPOW #81]

Scripture: Colossians 3:23 — “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”

Devotional

This verse is one of the clearest summaries of work as worship. “Whatever you do”—paid or unpaid, visible or unseen, ordinary or complex—is an opportunity to serve the Lord. Your true Boss is not on earth; He is in heaven.

Working “as for the Lord” changes everything. It transforms how you approach unwanted tasks, difficult people, or unseen efforts. You’re no longer working just for a paycheck, a performance review, or human recognition. You’re working to honor the One who saved you, loves you, and empowers you.

This doesn’t mean earthly supervisors don’t matter; it means they’re not ultimate. You can respect authority, fulfill responsibilities, and pursue excellence without becoming enslaved to others’ opinions. Your heart is anchored in God. When you work heartily for Him, your daily responsibilities become an altar of worship.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How might your attitude shift if you truly saw the Lord as your ultimate “boss”?

  2. What tasks feel especially hard to do “heartily” right now?

  3. How could you intentionally offer your work today as worship to God?

Prayer

Lord, help me remember that I ultimately work for You. Teach me to do my tasks heartily, not for human applause but to honor Your name. Let my work today be an expression of love and worship to You. Amen.
