When You Carry the Weight of Others’ Decisions [Attorney #53]

Scripture: “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you…” — Psalm 55:22a (ESV)

Devotional

Attorneys often bear invisible burdens—not just legal responsibility, but emotional weight. You walk with clients through divorce, disaster, injustice, or deep personal failure. And when outcomes are painful, some of that pain lands on your shoulders.

You may wonder: Did I do enough? Did I miss something? Did I fail them?

Psalm 55 reminds you of a better way: Cast your burden on the Lord. He is not just your God in private life—He is your sustainer in professional burdens.

You are not called to carry what only God can hold. You are not the redeemer. Not the fixer. Not the ultimate defender. You are a steward of wisdom, a voice of justice—but God is the one who heals, vindicates, and restores.

So when the outcome stings… when the client weeps… when your heart breaks with theirs—bring that weight to the Lord. Not just as a quick prayer, but as a habit of release.

You are not alone in this calling. The God who called you into law also promises to walk with you through its most tender moments.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Have you been carrying emotional weight from clients or cases that you haven’t surrendered to God?

  2. How can you build a rhythm of release into your daily or weekly routine?

  3. What burden can you bring to the Lord right now?

Prayer

God, I give You the burdens I’ve been carrying—some seen, some hidden. Sustain me with Your strength. Hold what I can’t hold. And bring peace to my spirit as I trust in You.
