When You Feel Lonely at Work [TDPOW #175]

Scripture

Psalm 25:16 — “Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.”

Devotional

You can be surrounded by people at work and still feel deeply alone—left out of social circles, misunderstood, or the only believer in your environment. Loneliness at work can make each day feel heavy and uninviting.

The psalmist brings his loneliness honestly to God: “Turn to me…for I am lonely.” God doesn’t dismiss those feelings; He draws near to the lonely and places them in families. While your workplace may not feel like family, you do belong to the family of God. You are never truly alone.

Stewarding loneliness means bringing it before the Lord, asking Him for comfort and for meaningful connections—even one person to walk with. It may also mean taking small risks: initiating conversations, joining a group, or seeking Christian fellowship outside of work to strengthen your heart.

Reflection Questions

In what ways do you experience loneliness in your work environment?

Have you been honest with God about those feelings, or mostly just endured them?

What small step could you take toward connection—with God or with people—this week?

Prayer

Lord, You see my loneliness at work. Turn to me and be gracious to me. Remind me that I am never alone in You, and guide me toward healthy, life-giving connections that encourage my faith and my heart. Amen.
