When You’re Treated Unjustly [TDPOW #68]

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:19 — “For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly.”

Devotional

Being treated unfairly—blamed for others’ mistakes, spoken to harshly, paid unequally, or evaluated unjustly—is deeply painful. Everything in you wants to defend, retaliate, or withdraw. Scripture doesn’t minimize this pain, but it does show how God values those who endure injustice “mindful of God.”

This doesn’t mean you never set boundaries, pursue proper channels, or seek wise counsel. But it does mean your ultimate response is shaped by Christ, who Himself suffered unjustly and entrusted Himself to the Father. When you choose to respond with integrity, gentleness, and trust, you participate in His pattern.

Enduring unjust treatment with a God-centered heart is “a gracious thing.” God sees the cost. He draws near to defend, comfort, and one day vindicate His people. Your trust in Him during injustice is a powerful testimony.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where have you experienced unjust treatment at work?

  2. How have you been responding—in your thoughts, words, and choices?

  3. What might it look like to endure “mindful of God,” while still acting wisely and appropriately?

Prayer

Lord, You see every injustice I face. Give me wisdom to respond rightly and courage to walk in integrity. Help me entrust myself to You, knowing that You are my Defender and Judge. Amen.
