When You’re Wronged in a Deal [Commercial Broker #47]

When You’re Wronged in a Deal [Commercial Broker #47]

Scripture: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21 (ESV)

Devotional

Eventually, you will be treated unfairly—a client cuts you out of a commission, another broker takes credit for your work, or terms are changed in a way that harms you. In those moments, anger and bitterness rush in. You may be tempted to retaliate, gossip, or quietly sabotage future opportunities.

God does not minimize injustice, but He calls you to respond differently than the world does. Overcoming evil with good might mean addressing the issue directly and professionally, seeking restitution where appropriate, but refusing to nurture revenge. It may mean choosing not to bad-mouth those who wronged you, entrusting the situation to God’s judgment.

Your response when wronged reveals whether you truly believe God is your defender and provider. If He is, you are free to act with integrity even when others do not. That doesn’t mean you become a doormat; it means you guard your heart from becoming hardened.

Reflection Questions:

·       Is there a situation where I still feel wronged and bitter? How is it affecting me?

·       What might it look like to “overcome evil with good” in that specific context?

Prayer

Father, You see every injustice. Heal the places where I’ve been wronged and protect my heart from bitterness. Show me how to respond with wisdom and goodness that honors You. Amen.
