When Your Health Is Affected by Work Stress [Sales Professional #147]
Scripture
“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” — Psalm 23:2–3 (ESV)
Devotional
Chronic stress can show up physically—tight muscles, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, or other symptoms. Sometimes your body is telling you something your schedule won’t admit: This isn’t sustainable.
The Good Shepherd doesn’t only lead you into productivity; He leads you into rest. Sometimes He even “makes” you lie down—slowing you through circumstances so you don’t destroy yourself by constant overdrive. Ignoring your body’s signals is a form of pride that assumes you can push beyond the limits God has built into you.
Part of honoring God at work is honoring the body He gave you. That may mean adjusting your schedule, setting boundaries on hours, seeking help, or making changes to how you handle pressure. He restores your soul—but He often invites you to cooperate with that restoration.
Reflection Questions
What physical signs show that stress is taking a toll on me?
Have I been ignoring God’s invitations to rest and recalibrate?
What specific change can I make to care better for my health this week?
Prayer
Shepherd of my soul, I bring You my tired body and mind. Show me where I need to slow down, adjust, or seek help. Restore me, and help me honor You by honoring the limits You’ve given me. Amen.
