Scripture: Proverbs 16:9 — “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
Devotional
Many people find themselves in roles they never planned—jobs that feel “less than” their dreams or training. You may feel overqualified, underutilized, or stuck in something you never expected. It’s easy to think, This can’t be where God really wants me.
Yet Scripture reminds us that while we plan our way, the Lord establishes our steps. He is not surprised by your current assignment. Even if your path includes detours, delays, or disappointments, He can use this season to shape your character, deepen your dependence, and prepare you for what’s next.
God often does His deepest work in places you might not choose. The question is not only, “Do I like this job?” but “How can I walk faithfully with God where He has me today?” When you surrender your expectations and invite Him into your present circumstances, your work—however humble—becomes holy ground.
Reflection Questions:
How is your current role different from what you once hoped or imagined?
What might God be teaching or forming in you in this season?
How can you be faithful today, even as you seek His guidance for the future?
Prayer
Lord, my plans and my reality don’t always match. Help me trust that You have established my steps. Show me how to honor You in this season and prepare my heart for whatever You have next. Amen.
