Scripture: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” — James 1:5 (ESV)
Devotional
Real estate development is rarely a matter of simple choices. Most decisions involve layers of complexity—financial exposure, regulatory nuance, partnership dynamics, timing risk, and long-term consequences. While experience and expertise are invaluable, Scripture reminds us that wisdom does not originate with us. James 1:5 offers a direct and gracious promise: God gives wisdom generously to those who ask. Not sparingly. Not reluctantly. Generously.
Wisdom differs from information. You may have the data, the models, and the forecasts, yet still feel uncertain about the right course of action. Biblical wisdom helps you discern alignment, not just feasibility. It enables you to recognize when an opportunity is technically viable but spiritually misaligned, or when patience is required even though pressure urges movement. Wisdom guards you from making decisions driven solely by fear, pride, or urgency.
Asking God for wisdom requires humility. It acknowledges limits and invites divine perspective into human planning. God often answers through prayer, Scripture, counsel, or an inner conviction that brings peace rather than pressure. His wisdom does not always simplify decisions, but it clarifies priorities. It slows you down when haste would be costly and steadies you when uncertainty feels overwhelming.
When wisdom governs your work, decision-making becomes an act of trust. You are no longer relying solely on your ability to control outcomes but on God’s faithfulness to guide your steps. Over time, this posture produces discernment that deepens rather than diminishes. Projects shaped by wisdom may move more deliberately, but they carry a confidence that shortcuts can never provide.
Reflection Questions:
Where do I currently feel the weight of a complex decision?
Am I asking God for wisdom—or only relying on analysis?
What would it look like to slow down and seek discernment today?
Prayer
God, I need Your wisdom. Teach me to ask before acting and to trust Your guidance over my own understanding. Lead me in decisions that honor You and bring peace. Amen.
