Wisdom in Choosing Partners [Real Estate Dev #160]

Scripture

“Do two walk together, unless they have agreed to meet?” — Amos 3:3

Devotional

A development project can survive many problems.

A bad partnership can create problems that affect everything.

Partners influence capital decisions, risk tolerance, communication, ethics, timing, and ultimately the culture surrounding a project.

That makes choosing partners a matter of discernment.

Financial capacity matters. Experience matters. Relationships matter.

Character matters more.

Before entering a partnership, look beyond what someone brings to the deal. Consider what they bring into the relationship.

How do they behave when negotiations become difficult?

Do they honor commitments?

How do they speak about previous partners?

Are they transparent when problems arise?

What happens when their interests conflict with yours?

Shared faith is not required for every business relationship, but shared expectations concerning honesty, fairness, and integrity are essential.

A partnership that begins with unresolved value conflicts rarely becomes healthier when millions of dollars and significant pressure are introduced.

Do not allow the excitement of a deal to cause you to minimize character.

The right partner can strengthen your judgment, complement your weaknesses, and help you navigate adversity.

The wrong one can turn even a successful project into a painful experience.

Choose carefully.

Reflection Questions

• What qualities matter most when I choose partners?

• Have I ever ignored character concerns because someone brought value to a deal?

• Are my current partnerships strengthening wise and ethical decision-making?

Action Step

Before entering or expanding a partnership, evaluate character and values with the same seriousness you evaluate financial capacity.

Prayer

Father, give me wisdom in choosing the people with whom I build. Surround me with partners marked by honesty, responsibility, and integrity, and help me be that kind of partner to others. Amen.
