Wisdom in Conflict [Real Estate Dev #178]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” — Matthew 5:9.
Devotional
Conflict is unavoidable in development.
Contracts are interpreted differently. Schedules slip. Costs increase. Expectations diverge. People become frustrated.
The question is not whether conflict will occur.
The question is what kind of person you become when it does.
Some leaders avoid conflict until problems grow larger.
Others escalate quickly and damage relationships unnecessarily.
Jesus calls His followers to be peacemakers.
Peacemaking is not passivity. It requires courage to address problems directly while pursuing resolution rather than victory.
Start with facts.
Listen before accusing.
Separate assumptions from what you actually know.
Own your contribution to the problem.
Seek a solution that is fair rather than simply advantageous.
And remember that the person across the table is more valuable than the dispute between you.
Not every conflict will end happily. Some situations require firm boundaries, legal remedies, or difficult decisions.
But even then, your conduct can remain Christlike.
You cannot control the other party's behavior.
You can control whether your own behavior contributes to peace or intensifies division.
Reflection Questions
• Do I tend to avoid conflict or escalate it?
• What unresolved conflict currently needs wise attention?
• What would peacemaking look like without compromising legitimate responsibilities?
Action Step
Address one unresolved issue directly and calmly, entering the conversation with the goal of understanding and resolution rather than winning.
Prayer
Jesus, make me a peacemaker in difficult situations. Give me courage to address conflict honestly, humility to recognize my own faults, and wisdom to pursue fair and constructive resolution. Amen.
