Wisdom in Knowing When to Wait [Commercial Broker #141]
Scripture
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1 (ESV)
Devotional
In commercial real estate, urgency is constant—“Move fast or lose it.” Yet not every opportunity is meant to be seized immediately. Sometimes wisdom says, wait. Market conditions may be shifting. Key information may still be unclear. A client’s internal situation may need time to settle.
Waiting is not the same as passivity. It’s active discernment. You’re still gathering information, watching indicators, and praying for clarity. But you’re resisting pressure to act before the season is right. Your counsel might be, “Let’s not rush this. A better moment may be coming,” or, “We need one more piece of information before we commit.”
God works in seasons. What is impossible in one season may be perfectly aligned in another. Helping clients discern timing is as much a service as helping them choose location or terms. It takes courage to say, “Not yet,” when everyone else is saying, “Now!”
Faith trusts that God is Lord over timing, not just over outcomes.
Reflection Questions
Is there a deal or decision where I sense the need to slow down, but I’m afraid to?
How can I help my clients see timing as part of stewardship, not just speed?
Prayer
Lord, teach me to recognize Your seasons. Give me courage to wait when wisdom says wait, and to trust that Your timing is better than my haste. Amen.
