Wisdom in Knowing When to Walk Away [Commercial Broker #148]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture
“Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.” — Proverbs 16:8 (ESV)
Devotional
Some deals are simply not worth doing. Red flags multiply. Ethics feel compromised. The personalities involved become toxic. The financial upside is real—but so is the spiritual and relational cost. In those moments, wisdom and righteousness may call you to walk away.
Walking away is hard. You may lose a commission, strain a relationship, or feel like you’ve wasted time. But what you keep is far more valuable: a clean conscience before God, protection from deeper trouble, and freedom from being entangled in something that violates your convictions.
You can say, respectfully, “I don’t believe I can move forward in good conscience with this.” That sentence may close a door—but it opens heaven’s approval. God can provide ten righteous opportunities to replace one compromised one.
Better a smaller income with integrity than great revenue with inner conflict.
Reflection Questions
Is there a current situation that may require me to walk away in order to honor God?
What fears make it hard for me to release problematic deals or partnerships?
Prayer
Lord, give me courage to walk away when righteousness requires it. Help me value a clean conscience above any potential revenue, trusting You as my Provider. Amen.
