Wisdom in Reading the Market, Trust in Following God [Commercial Broker #143]

 Scripture

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5 (ESV)

Devotional

Market knowledge is essential—rents, vacancies, absorption, cap rates, financing conditions. You are called to read those signals carefully and interpret them honestly. But no matter how much data you have, your understanding is still limited. Forecasts can be wrong. Conditions can change overnight.

Wisdom means doing your homework and recognizing its limits. You present your best analysis, but you don’t worship it. You say, “Based on what we know now, here’s how things look,” while holding space in your heart for God to move in ways you didn’t predict.

The danger is leaning so heavily on your own understanding that you lose the posture of trust. You begin to function like the market is god and God is an afterthought. Biblical wisdom reverses that: you trust the Lord with all your heart and use your understanding as a tool, not a master.

Your peace doesn’t come from perfect forecasts; it comes from a perfect Father.

Reflection Questions

Do I ever treat market conditions as if they are ultimate, instead of tools under God’s sovereignty?

How can I more consciously acknowledge God when presenting or acting on market insights?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the insights You allow me to gain. Help me use them wisely without leaning on them as my ultimate security. Teach me to trust You above all. Amen.
