Wisdom in Stewarding Influence [Commercial Broker #149]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.” — Matthew 5:13–14 (ESV)
Devotional
Over time, faithful service and wise counsel build influence. Clients seek your opinion. Colleagues respect your voice. Community leaders know your name. That influence is not just a career asset; it’s a stewardship entrusted by God.
Stewarding influence wisely means asking, “How can I use this position to reflect Christ?” It might look like advocating for ethical practices in your firm, encouraging generous decisions from owners, or bringing community impact into strategic discussions. It may be as simple as speaking kindly of someone when others are tearing them down.
Salt preserves and flavors; light reveals and guides. Your influence can preserve integrity in your sphere and point people toward what is right and good. But if you use influence primarily for self-promotion, its Kingdom value is lost.
You are not influential by accident. God placed you where you are so that light would shine in boardrooms, negotiations, and planning meetings that might otherwise be dark.
Reflection Questions
Where has God already given me influence—in clients’ lives, my firm, or my market?
How can I use that influence more intentionally for truth, justice, and grace?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for the influence You’ve entrusted to me. Help me use it not for my own glory, but to bring light, truth, and love into the places You’ve called me. Amen.
