Wisdom Through Accurate, Honest Analysis [Commercial Broker #153]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture
“A truthful witness saves lives.” — Proverbs 14:25 (ESV)
Devotional
Accurate analysis is not just professionalism—it is integrity. It’s tempting, especially under pressure, to craft assumptions that make a deal “work” or to present numbers in the best possible light. But misaligned assumptions—about rent growth, occupancy, risk, or costs—can mislead clients, partners, and lenders.
A “truthful witness” saves lives because truth protects people from bad decisions. In commercial real estate, your analysis can protect someone from overextending financially, entering a poor location, or assuming more risk than they can bear.
Wisdom means grounding projections in reality, not optimism. It means presenting best-case, worst-case, and most-likely scenarios honestly. It means saying, “I want this to work too—but these numbers concern me.” God is honored when your analysis reflects truth rather than aspirational spin.
Honesty in analysis may cost a deal today but will deepen trust for years to come.
Reflection Questions
Do I ever “round up,” “round down,” or adjust assumptions to make things look more favorable?
How can I ensure my analysis reflects truth, not pressure or wishful thinking?
Prayer
Lord, make me a truthful witness. Help me analyze and present information with honesty so that my counsel protects rather than harms. Amen.
