Wisdom When Experts Disagree [Real Estate Dev #176]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture
“The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.” — Proverbs 18:17.
Devotional
Eventually, your experts will disagree.
The engineer recommends one solution.
The contractor prefers another.
The attorney sees risk where the broker sees opportunity.
The lender wants something the equity partner dislikes.
Now the decision returns to you.
These moments reveal why leadership requires judgment rather than merely access to expertise.
Proverbs reminds us how persuasive the first explanation can sound—until another perspective is heard.
Resist making premature conclusions.
Understand why each expert holds their position.
Are they working from different assumptions?
Are they evaluating different kinds of risk?
Does one person's recommendation transfer risk to someone else?
What evidence supports each conclusion?
You do not need to become the technical expert in every discipline.
But you do need enough understanding to evaluate competing advice responsibly.
Ask questions until you can clearly explain the disagreement yourself.
Then seek the solution that best serves the overall project rather than simply following the strongest personality in the room.
Wisdom listens widely and decides carefully.
Reflection Questions
• How do I respond when trusted advisers disagree?
• Am I overly influenced by confidence or personality?
• Do I understand the assumptions behind competing recommendations?
Action Step
When two advisers disagree, ask each to explain the strongest argument for the other person's position before you decide.
Prayer
Father, give me discernment when good advisers reach different conclusions. Help me listen carefully, understand the real issues, and make decisions based on wisdom rather than personality or pressure. Amen.
