Work That Blesses Your Community [TDPOW #24]

Scripture: Jeremiah 29:7 — “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you… and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”

Devotional

God told His people in exile not to withdraw, but to seek the good of the place where He had sent them. That included their work, relationships, and daily lives. In the same way, your work is one of the primary ways you contribute to the welfare of your community.

When you serve customers honestly, care for patients compassionately, teach students faithfully, build safely, manage wisely, or support a team reliably, you are helping your city flourish. Your job is not isolated from God’s mission—it is part of how He blesses the world.

Even in environments that feel spiritually dry or morally confusing, God calls you to lean in rather than pull away. Your faithful presence at work is part of His plan. As you seek the good of others, you reflect the heart of Christ, who came not to be served but to serve.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does your work contribute to the welfare of your community, even in small ways?

  2. Are there new ways you could seek the good of your workplace or city through your role?

  3. How can you begin praying specifically for the people and needs around you?

Prayer

Father, help me see my work as part of how You bless my community. Show me how to seek the good of my workplace and city. Use my efforts to bring hope, stability, and blessing to others. Amen.

This devotional is designed to encourage you as you live out your faith in the workplace. It works best when paired with regular time in Scripture, prayer, and worship—the rhythms through which we grow to know Christ more deeply and become more like Him.
