Working as Unto the Lord [Accountant #4]

Scripture “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” — Colossians 3:23

Devotional

Most of your work unfolds under human authority—clients, supervisors, deadlines, and expectations. Yet Scripture reminds us that behind every earthly responsibility stands a greater audience. When you work as unto the Lord, your motivation shifts from approval to obedience.

Viewing your work as service to Christ changes how you approach even routine tasks. Excellence becomes worship rather than performance. Perseverance becomes devotion rather than obligation. You are no longer defined solely by outcomes or recognition, but by faithfulness to God.

This perspective also brings freedom. When your work is anchored in obedience to Christ, you can give your best without being consumed by fear of failure or need for validation. You can rest in the knowledge that God sees your effort, even when others do not.

Working as unto the Lord does not remove pressure—but it places it in proper perspective. You are serving a Master who is gracious, just, and faithful. He values your obedience more than your efficiency and your heart more than your results.

Today, allow your work to become an offering. Let your diligence, humility, and integrity reflect the One you ultimately serve.

Reflection Questions

  1. Who do you feel pressure to please most in your work?

  2. How might your mindset change if you viewed your work primarily as service to Christ?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help me work with excellence and humility today. Remind me that I serve You above all else, and let my work honor You. Amen.

This devotional is intended to help you integrate your faith into your daily work and calling. It is not a substitute for personal time with God in Scripture, prayer, and worship, which are essential for knowing Christ, loving Him deeply, and becoming more like Him.
