Working for an Audience of One [Attorney #75]

Working for an Audience of One [Attorney #75]

Scripture: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” — Colossians 3:23

Devotional

The legal profession is often shaped by external expectations—client demands, firm performance metrics, peer comparison, and professional recognition. It’s easy to begin measuring your worth by outcomes, reputation, or success.

But Scripture redirects your focus. You are not ultimately working for clients, firms, or courts—you are working for the Lord.

This shift changes everything. It frees you from the constant need for approval. It grounds your identity in something deeper than performance. It allows you to pursue excellence without being defined by results.

When you work for an audience of One, integrity becomes non-negotiable. Faithfulness becomes the goal. Success is redefined—not by wins or losses, but by obedience.

This perspective brings both clarity and peace. You can give your best effort, knowing that God sees, values, and honors your work—even when others do not.

Reflection Questions:

• What currently influences my sense of success the most?

• How would my work change if I focused solely on honoring God?

Action Step: Before starting your workday tomorrow, dedicate your work to God and commit to working for His approval alone.

Prayer

Lord, help me to work for You above all else. Let my efforts reflect my desire to honor You in everything I do. Amen.
