Colossians 3:24 — “…knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
Devotional
In many workplaces, rewards are tied to performance—bonuses, promotions, recognition, or perks. These can be good, but they are temporary and uncertain. Sometimes you work hard and are honored; other times you are overlooked. If your hope is anchored only in earthly rewards, your joy will rise and fall with circumstances.
Paul reminds you of a different reward system. Ultimately, you are serving the Lord Christ, and He is the One who will reward your faithfulness with an eternal inheritance. That inheritance is not based on perfect results, but on a life of trusting and following Him.
This doesn’t mean earthly rewards don’t matter at all, but it does mean they’re not ultimate. You can work with integrity even when no one notices, because you know your true Master sees. You can release resentment when others are recognized ahead of you, because your deepest reward is secure in Him.
Reflection Questions
How much does your motivation at work depend on human recognition or rewards?
How does remembering your eternal inheritance shift your perspective on your current role?
What would it look like today to consciously “serve the Lord Christ” in your tasks?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that my ultimate reward is secure in You. Help me work for Your approval above all others. When I feel overlooked or unrewarded, remind me that You see and that my inheritance in You will never fade. Amen.
