Scripture: “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” (Genesis 2:15)
Reflection:
Before the Fall, work was part of God’s perfect creation. In Genesis 2:15, God places Adam in the garden to work and care for it, showing that labor was not a punishment but a meaningful way to engage with His creation. Adam’s tasks were joyful and fulfilling, reflecting God’s own creativity and order.
Work was designed to be a source of joy, purpose, and connection with God. There was no frustration, toil, or futility—only the satisfaction of partnering with God in maintaining His creation. This reminds us that work, in its original form, is inherently good and a reflection of God’s nature.
Today, we often view work as burdensome, but this perspective changes when we remember its divine origin. When we align our work with God’s purposes, we experience a glimpse of the joy and fulfillment He intended for humanity.
Even in a fallen world, we can honor God by seeking ways to restore the goodness of work. By approaching our tasks with gratitude and faith, we reflect His original design and partner with Him in bringing order and beauty to the world.
Application Question / Challenge:
What tasks in your work bring you joy? Reflect on how these moments reflect God’s original design for labor.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for designing work as a good and meaningful part of life. Help me to approach my tasks with joy and purpose, honoring Your perfect design. Amen.
